Content Warning Review
Content Warning Review
In theory, Content Warning functions similarly to Steam-favorite survival horror multiplayer, Lethal Company. In three-day cycles, you and up to three other aspiring SpöökTubers must descend into a pit. Your goal is to film something spooky, go viral, and make money.
So, you descend into the pit with a depleting oxygen tank, and you hope to live long enough to ride a diving bell back to the surface, upload your footage to the tv, and watch the ad revenue come rushing in.
I didn’t play any public games, though save file options make it possible for you to play either with friends, or alone. I never played alone either.
I kept encountering Whisker, for example, a teetering thing with a whirring hand mixer for a head. I was defenseless, holding only my all-important film camera, which one player per game uses to film spooks and take selfies. The first time i encountered him I had no idea what the fuck had come at me.
You need friends to help you get out of any real trouble. So, Content Warning is kind of an online multiplayer-only game. Though it’s not mandatory to use voice chat in-game, it is immensely useful for planning footage and coordinating your group’s escape to the surface. Once, after we each selected our bright, emoticon faces and left the taffy-colored cottage where all games start. The first time I played it was with a streamer friend of mine during his live.
The absurdity of voice chat is the best part of Content Warning. The game has certainly built in some of its other humorous aspects, if you manage to push a game through its complete three-day cycle, you can use the SpöökTube money you earn to buy similar props for your videos and emotes, like a “Goo Ball” ($150) or “Ancient Gestures 1” (the middle finger), which are essentially your only tangible motivations for completing a full three-day playthrough. Content Warning has no narrative or progression system beyond making money.
It’s actually a content creator role-playing game. The most effective way to get famous is to let yourself get gored while someone else films or decide who you care about least and request that they do something horrible. I noticed with the right group you can do some really funny shit throughout the game.
However, at the end of the day, it’s repetitive and I stopped playing it for the most part.
Thank you for reading I appreciate and value all of you. I hope you enjoyed seeing some new releases. Let me know in the comments if I should continue to do game reviews on here.
